A recent study by a U.S. nonprofit has revealed that a staggering 90% of commercially available toothpastes in the country contain lead, along with other hazardous heavy metals. Notable brands, such as Colgate, Crest, and Sensodyne, are among those found to be affected.

The investigation was conducted by the nonprofit organization Lead Safe Mama, which sent 51 different toothpaste products to independent laboratories for testing. The results were alarming: approximately 90% of the samples contained lead, 65% had arsenic, nearly half tested positive for mercury, and one-third contained cadmium.

Among the well-known brands flagged in the study were Crest, Davids, Dr. Jen, Sensodyne, Tom’s of Maine, and Dr. Bronner’s. These findings have raised serious concerns about the safety of widely used oral care products, prompting calls for further regulation and more stringent safety standards.

The presence of these toxic metals in everyday products highlights a growing need for increased transparency and stricter testing for harmful substances in consumer goods, especially those used by children and adults alike for daily hygiene.
