(Ipoh, 12th) — The lifeless body of a baby elephant, tragically killed and dragged under a lorry, has been removed and laid to rest. Covered in injuries, the baby elephant's condition was heart-wrenching and difficult to witness.
Rescue personnel, concerned that the mother elephant might become emotionally distressed by the sight of her calf’s body, released her into the nearby forest before retrieving the remains — a decision that added to the sorrow of the scene.
Mohamad Amir, an officer responsible for patrolling and overseeing safety in the area, shared a video on Facebook today showing the rescue team releasing the mother elephant about 1 kilometer from the accident site into the forest, before proceeding to remove the baby’s body.
"The baby elephant has been buried near the accident site," he said. He also expressed that witnessing the permanent separation between the mother and her calf brought tears to his eyes and filled him with deep sorrow.
