Japan: Uniqlo Raises Salaries by 11%: New Staff Earn RM9,393, Store Managers RM11,700

Japanese retail giant Fast Retailing, the parent company of Uniqlo, has announced an 11% salary increase for its headquarters employees and store staff. The pay raise reflects the company's robust performance driven by soaring clothing demand, bolstered by Japan's colder-than-usual weather.

Key Highlights of the Salary Adjustment:

  1. Effective Date:
The salary increase will take effect starting March 2025.

  2. Revised Salaries:

    • Entry-Level Employees: Monthly salaries for new hires will rise from ¥300,000 to ¥330,000 (approximately RM9,393).
    • Store Managers: Starting monthly salaries will increase from ¥390,000 to ¥410,000 (approximately RM11,671).
  3. Reason for the Adjustment:
The decision aligns with Fast Retailing’s efforts to remain competitive in the global labor market while recognizing employees’ contributions to the company’s success.

Positive Outlook for Financial Results

Analysts expect Fast Retailing to report impressive results in its quarterly financial statement on January 9. The company's performance has been buoyed by increased winter clothing sales, driven by Japan's low temperatures, and continued global expansion.

The salary adjustment also signals the company’s commitment to investing in its workforce while maintaining growth momentum in a competitive retail landscape.
