RM10 for Two Barley Ice Drinks – Loyal Customer Jokes: “Does It Make You Immortal?”

Kota Kinabalu, April 6 – A customer was left stunned after being charged RM10 for just two cups of barley ice at a local coffee shop, prompting a tongue-in-cheek remark: “Is this drink the secret to immortality?”

The individual, who posted anonymously on the “Sabah Da Da Zui Ba” (Sabah Big Mouth) Facebook page, shared that he had been a regular at the eatery near the 7-Eleven in Kolombong for over a decade. Since he usually dined there with a group, he never noticed the pricing closely—until this recent visit with just one friend.

Upon receiving the bill, the price of the drinks caught him completely off guard. “I didn’t just get shocked once — I got shocked five times,” he joked.

He then questioned whether the Malaysian Ringgit had dropped so much in value or if he had simply lost touch with current prices. “Does this barley drink grant eternal life?” he quipped.

Out of concern over potential legal repercussions, he refrained from naming the shop, saying, “I don’t want to end up eating A4 paper,” implying the fear of receiving a legal notice. He added that the price was beyond his budget and he wouldn’t be returning.

The post quickly gained traction, with many netizens expressing support and poking fun at the situation.

“Maybe the barley was imported from Italy?” one commenter joked.

Another added, “The number of times the coffee shop owner gets to visit Genting each year depends on customers like you!”

Some advised the poster to take action by reporting the pricing to the authorities.

“Bring it up with the Consumer Association or the Ministry of Domestic Trade,” one user suggested.

Another chimed in, “Let the ministry officials try the drink — maybe it’s made with the rarest water on Earth!”
