Spanish Student Killed in Tragic Elephant Attack in Thailand

A leisure trip turned into a heartbreaking tragedy when 22-year-old Spanish student Blanca Oria-Guren Garcia was fatally attacked by an elephant during a visit to a sanctuary in Thailand. The incident occurred on the idyllic island of Koh Yao, where Blanca and her boyfriend were participating in a popular elephant bathing activity.

According to reports from Spanish media El Heraldo, the law and international relations student from Navarra University was walking in front of the elephant after washing it when the animal suddenly turned aggressive and gored her with its tusk. The attack proved fatal, and Blanca tragically passed away on the spot.

Experts suggest that the elephant may have been under extreme stress due to constant interactions with tourists, leading to the unexpected behavior.

Blanca was an exchange student studying in Taiwan, using her school break to explore Thailand. Her university expressed deep sorrow over the loss, offering condolences to her family, while the Spanish Foreign Ministry and Embassy are providing further support to her loved ones.

This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers associated with wildlife tourism and the importance of prioritizing animal welfare.
