(Genting Highlands foothills, 5th) — A trailer transporting multiple luxury vehicles caught fire suddenly on the Karak Highway near the foothills of Genting Highlands, with the raging flames swiftly engulfing the entire trailer and one of the luxury cars it was carrying.
This rare vehicle fire incident occurred at around 11:00 PM last night at the 38.2 km mark of the Karak Highway heading towards the East Coast, just past the Genting tunnel exit. The fire was intense, with thick smoke billowing into the night sky, creating a dramatic scene.
Following the incident, authorities closed the emergency lane and the leftmost lane of the highway, causing severe traffic congestion. The traffic jam extended up to 7.7 kilometers, with the furthest point of the jam reaching as far as the 30.5 km mark.
In a statement, the Pahang Fire and Rescue Department said they received the emergency call at 11:23 PM and arrived on the scene at 11:51 PM. Firefighting operations were carried out until the fire was fully extinguished at 1:09 AM.
“The fire affected the trailer’s cabin and part of the vehicles it was carrying. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident.”
It is understood that the trailer was transporting one Lexus Harrier SUV, one Honda Stepwgn 7-seater van, and three Toyota Alphard luxury MPVs. The fire mainly destroyed the trailer’s cabin and damaged about 20% of the Harrier SUV.
At the time of the incident, an adult male inside the trailer managed to escape uninjured.
After the fire was put out, the left lane was reopened to traffic at 1:16 AM today, while the emergency lane remains closed.
